# Privacy Policy — Kula

Kula is a private family-tree app, owned and operated by Atlas Ventures ("we", "our", "the app"). The family graph belongs to your family — we hold the minimum amount of data needed to keep it working.

## What we collect

When you sign in with WhatsApp OTP, we receive:

- Your WhatsApp phone number, used to send a one-time verification code and identify you to the relatives you connect to.
- The name you enter on the sign-up screen, so we and your family can see who you are.
- A timestamp of when your account was created.

When you use the app, we store on your device only:

- Your family tree (people you've added, the relationships between them, who has confirmed which connection).
- Your preferences (language).
- Moments you and your family share (photos and the words around them).

We do not collect:

- Your phone contacts. The contact picker reads your contact list **only on your device** to help you fill the "Add a relative" form — none of those contacts are uploaded or stored by us. Only the single contact you actually tap and submit becomes part of your family graph.
- Your location, microphone, or any device sensors.
- The camera and photo library are accessed only when you tap "Moment" and take or pick a photo — those photos are uploaded only when you tap "Share".
- Any browsing or app-usage data outside of Kula itself.
- Payment information (Kula is free).

## How we use your information

- **Phone and name** to identify you to relatives you've added or who have added you, and to send WhatsApp OTP codes when you sign in.
- **Photos and captions** you share appear to family members you're connected to on the tree. Connections are two-party — you both have to agree before either of you can see the other's posts.
- **Preferences** stay on your device and travel with you between sign-ins.

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your data with third-party advertisers or data brokers.

- **WATI / WhatsApp Business API** — to deliver the one-time login code over WhatsApp. See https://www.wati.io/privacy-policy.

- **Firebase Crashlytics** — anonymous crash reports so we can fix bugs. See https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
- **Amplitude** — anonymous product analytics so we can understand which features are useful. Your phone number is hashed before being sent. See https://amplitude.com/privacy.
- **Meta App Events** — to measure how installs come from ads we run. Your phone is hashed before being sent; no raw personal data leaves Kula. See https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy.
- **Expo / Google Play Services** — for delivering app updates. See https://expo.dev/privacy.

## Where your data lives

- On your device: in the app's local storage, protected by your phone's standard sandboxing.
- On our servers: your name, phone number, account-creation timestamp, the people you've added, the edges between them, and the moments you've shared. Hosted on Cloudflare with industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit.

## Your rights

You can:

- **Access** — request a copy of your personal data.
- **Correction** — request correction of any inaccurate data.
- **Deletion** — request deletion of your data and we will remove it within 30 days. Email us at atlas.ventures.agar@gmail.com with the subject "Delete my Kula account" from the email registered for your phone number, or include your registered phone number in the body.
- **Sign out** at any time from the You tab → Sign out, which removes your local data on the device.

## Children

Kula is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, email us and we will delete the account.

## Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
